Eurasian thick-knee

The Eurasian thick-knee – Burhinus oedicnemus or Eurasian stone-curlew is a larger sized species of Type – wader of the family Burhinidae and the Order Charadriiformes. It is a summer breeder across S Europe and SW Asia and migrates to winter in Africa. It is Resident along coastal lands of N Africa from The Canaries to Palestine and Cyprus. In the AWB Region it is a summer Breeder in N Syria, Turkey to most of Iran (except the central area) and E Iraq. In addition to the areas noted above it is also Resident down the Nile Valley. With regard to its wintering range it is one of the few birds whose wintering range includes large expanses of the Sahara Desert.
